July 3rd, 2023, the Center for Society Advancement launched a platform where young visually impaired individuals will be tutors to foreigners looking to improve their Serbian language skills

Thanks to donors, the Center for Society Advancement is initiating the operation of a platform where young visually impaired individuals will act as tutors for foreigners wishing to enhance their proficiency in the Serbian language. The platform, HeyHI, accessible via the link https://heyhi.app/, is currently in the testing phase. During this phase, Serbian and English languages are available, but efforts are underway to enhance the platform and expand the list of available languages for users to improve.

Interested individuals will have the opportunity to practice speaking Serbian with tutors who are exclusively visually impaired, partially sighted, or persons with other disabilities. The platform is user-friendly: users can schedule a 30-minute session and, at the agreed-upon time, engage in a video call with their tutor to practice language-speaking abilities and learn effective communication with others. By expressing their thoughts, emotions, and ideas, users seeking language proficiency will transform their self-image, boost confidence, and help individuals with disabilities actively participate in society.

The platform’s objectives are manifold. While users enhance their language skills, they assist persons with disabilities in increased social inclusion, earning opportunities, and contributing to the community. It is important to note that the platform is in the testing phase, and the sessions are currently free of charge. Our goal is for this platform to be beneficial to everyone—both users aiming for fluent speech and tutors striving for greater independence. Therefore, we welcome any feedback on experiences with the platform, suggestions, and errors that could contribute to improving the platform’s functionality and the tutoring process. We invite all interested parties to join, as tutors will be available throughout the month of July!

On June 25, 2023, we marked the completion of a cycle of the project “Independent but not Alone”

The project was implemented by the Center for Youth Integration “ZVEZDA” in partnership with the Center for Society Advancement and with the support of the Center for the Protection of Infants, Children, and Youth at Zvečanska 7.

The project is designed for young people without parental care who are preparing for independent living, as well as for those who left institutional care a few years ago and have become self-reliant. The goal of the project is for young individuals who have previously left institutional care and achieved independence with the assistance of the Center ZVEZDA to become mentors for those currently preparing for independence. This mentoring aims to help them overcome numerous obstacles and challenges, facilitating a smoother transition during their adaptation period in the local community.

On this occasion, we brought the youth together to celebrate our collaboration and plan for the next steps. We were honored to have colleagues from ASTRA and IZLAZAK as our guests, who educated the youth on avoiding drug influence and avoid becoming victims of human trafficking.

We also took some time for laughter and fun, enjoying a served dinner and a delicious cake. We express our gratitude to everyone for the wonderful collaboration, especially to the Radisson Hotel, which generously provided us with its beautiful space.

Another successful job has come to an end, and we believe that the continuation will be even better and more successful!

Weekend with children without parental care from the institution for children without parental care in Bela Crkva

Pictures speak louder than words. The beauty and dedication of these children are evident in their eagerly awaited weekends when our volunteers come to spend time with them and engage in creative activities!

This weekend’s theme was DREAMS. The little ones first shared their dreams, then asked questions such as:

„Does dreaming about something mean it will happen in reality?“

They discussed the distinction between good and bad dreams and how dreams impact us. Afterwards, the children drew their dreams.

Next weekend, we are creating Dream Catchers for their rooms.

We invite you to participate financially and with donations to ensure these workshops last at least one cycle of 12 months.

The Center for Society Advancement expresses gratitude to MONI for their support of the group of children we work with in Belgrade.

Call for Assistance in Organizing an Educational-Therapeutic Trip for Children without Parental Care

The Center for Society Advancement invites everyone to join and help in organizing another educational-therapeutic trip for children without parental care and young visually impaired individuals with whom we also work on skill development and fostering their independence.

As part of our annual support cycles, we always organize at least two trips for the entire group, and starting this year, children from the institution for children without parential care in Bela Crkva will also be joining us.

The goal is to give them the opportunity to see and learn something new, and above all, to take a break from residing in the institution and to forget about the difficult moments and challenges they face on daily  bases. It’s important to note that, no matter how many good things we do for them, the excursion is something they eagerly anticipate and greatly enjoy each time.

We have filled up two buses, and we were given the support from Drvengrad and Šarganska osmica, so we kindly ASK FOR YOUR SUPPORT in donating food and beverages. For this trip, we need 160 meals (at least two meals – burgers or a similar package), 80 bottles of juice, and 80 bottles of water.

We need to secure the supplies by June 20 at the latest!
